Youtube Sensation Random Girl Zendee Live in Singapore!

12:42:00 AM 0 Comments
Good news to Filipinos residing in Singapore because Youtube Sensation Random Girl Zendee will be going there! For those who do not know who she is, do you remember the news of a girl singing "And I'm Telling You" in SM Megamall last year? To know more about this Zendee, read my past article about her here.

Singapore’s top communications company Star Hub presents “Under the Stars: From Online to a Live Stage” a stellar concert with a great line-up of international and local talents that have successfully gained a following on YouTube.

Featured line-up of artists include Tanner Patrick (USA), Madilyn Bailey (USA), Nate Tao (USA), The 38 Years Ago (Thailand), The Sam Willows (Singapore) and the Philippines's very own Zendee as the final act.

The concept of taking YouTube sensations to a whole new level remains – bringing them closer to the audience by taking them from online to a live stage. The 3-hour musical festival will be held under the starry sky at The Coliseum of Resorts World Sentosa on June 28, 7:00pm.

For us here living in the Philippines and those outside Singapore, live streaming of the concert will be available via http://www.youtube.com/user/StarHub/home.

Zendee, and the rest of her band, flew to Singapore earlier this week to meet her co-performers. She also plans to tour around the city on her spare time since this is her first time in Singapore. Excited and nervous, Zendee feels honored to be selected as the final act in this once in a lifetime experience.

She is currently promoting her 2nd single “The Ones You Love”, from her debut album “I Believe” under Warner Music Philippines with a possible nationwide tour around the Philippines which is something to look forward to! Also, stay tuned as she documents her trip complete with photos to be featured in a local magazine soon.

Want to know more about Zendee? Check out her website www.zendee.com.ph or her Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/Zendee.Music. You can also follow her on Twitter @ZendeeOfficial to get latest updates about her.

Since Zendee got famous because of Youtube, she also has her own page there: http://www.youtube.com/zendeerosetenerefe so that you can hear and enjoy her sing!

A Hidden Gem: Orange Whisk Restaurant & Patisserie

5:13:00 AM 0 Comments
On our way to attend a wedding, my fiance and I were driving around Betterliving Subdivision in Paranaque when we got lost even with Google Maps on our phone! All the directions keep leading us to dead ends in the middle of residences. With hungry tummies, we were searching on a place to have lunch when our car passed Michael Rua Street and saw this small restaurant which says it is "Home of the Best Chewy Buns!"
That's the reflection of me and fiance.
Without a second thought, we parked the car and went down to check out this orange, white and black place! Inside the restaurant, there were no customers but we didn't care because we were starving! We went in and saw a board which has their menu of hot meals written on it.
The hand-written Off-the-Menu specials
Since my fiance and I were both hungry, without thinking, we ordered their Chewy Buns right away since they were readily available to fill our hungry tummies!
The Chewy Buns
The Chewy Buns can be heated before eating or eaten right away. Being so hungry, we didn't care anymore and just ate it as it is! It is crusty on the outside as shown in the photo above and very chewy. The bun is sweet with a hint of salty and buttery taste. The spaces inside the bun are filled with the salty and buttery flavor.
Inside the Chewy Bun
Since it was so good, my fiance and I can't help but order more! Within 10 minutes, I think we were able to finish 8 buns! We also tried it heated and it was a lot better because after chewing a bit, the bun just slowly melts in your mouth!

THE MENU
Aside from their very yummy and special Chewy Buns, they serve a variety of cuisine in their menu. I wasn't able to take the details of the full menu because of my hunger but I was able to take some parts which have caught my attention.

THE APPETIZER

Deep Fried Chicken Wings are crispy outside with a very flavorful and juicy inside. You'll noticed some orange dots on the crispy part because of custard which has made this chicken flavorful.

A closer look. Can you see the orange spots?
I also love their chicken's plate! It's fancy and makes food look more palatable which in turn makes one want to eat everything on it!!

THE MAIN COURSE

Ready to get more hungry?

Hotel Line Spoon, Fork and Knife (classy!)
The Basil Pesto Pasta just smells so good as it made its way to our table. My fiance and I can't help but notice the generous portion of pesto. Orange Whisk uses bucatini which is quite interesting to eat. They are pasta which look like little straws that has a bit of sauce inside which makes each bite filled with pesto!

The purple leaf on top is called micro amaranth which is edible and a wonderful pop of color that made the presentation of this dish beautiful.

The heart shaped little greens are micro arugula. Don't be fooled by these small heart shaped beauties! Even they're small, they're packed with flavor!

Basil Pesto Pasta
Beef Salpicao is Filipino-styled beef steak cooked in soy sauce and garlic. Orange Whisk uses beef tenderloin tips for this dish and it comes with rice. The serving of beef tenderloin is very generous. Even if I have already finished my rice, I still had so much beef tenderloin. Since it's the tenderloin part, the beef is very soft and melts in your mouth!

US Steak Onglet is something to look forward to in this restaurant! True to its name, the steak is really imported from the US which can be distinguished by its texture and taste. It's soft, tender and infused with flavor! I also love the fact that that it's perfectly cook the way me and my fiance love it: Medium! Even without gravy, it's already so good on its own.

The mash potato side dish is also to die for! It's creamy with baby carrots and mushroom. The micro arugula adds an additional aromatic kick.

THE DESSERTS

This Buko (coconut) Lychee Sorbet can take the taste of meat away from your mouth and breathe! It's smooth and sweet that will tickle the palette with its lightness.

Since this restaurant is also a patisserie, there were lots of other baked goodies to choose from as dessert! You may also buy and bring it home to eat later on!
I bought this and brought it home! My brother love how chewy and buttery the cookies are!
Caramel Egg Tarts
Red Velvet Cupcake (so lovely!)
THE INTERIORS

As its name says, the motif of the place is orange with touches of white, black and gray.

Orange whisk themed light
There's a window to see the kitchen! That's Chef Isaiah Ortega preparing something good.
Chef Darbi de Jesus cooking in the hot kitchen.
A small LPG tank that's not flammable because...
it's a Tip Box!
THE CHEFS

These 3 chefs are the ones who made our dining experience in Orange Whisk very comfortable and wonderful! We loved talking to them about how they've prepared each dish! They're very accommodating and friendly. Also, we learned that they have just opened the restaurant this month of June!

Chef Korinne Lirio with their famous Chewy Buns! The first of its kind buns in the Metro!
Chefs Korinne, Isaiah and Darbi are at your service to cook you a very sumptuous mouthwatering dish!
Orange Whisk Restaurant & Patisserie is located at 35-B Michael Rua St. Betterliving Subd., Paranaque 1711. It's open on Mondays, Wednesdays to Sundays from 10am-10pm. For reservations and take outs, call 501-6454.
With a sign like that, you sure will see the place!
If you passby the place, remember to try and bring home a box of their delicious Chewy Buns!
If you're looking for a gastronomic adventure, take the courage and drive to Orange Whisk! It's going to be wonderful and a worth it trip! My fiance and I got lost, went in and did not regret any of it! ;) If you noticed, we ordered a lot to fill up every little space of our hungry tummy and we sure glad we did!

Manila Improv Festival 2013: Performance Schedules June 26-30, 2013

12:12:00 AM 0 Comments
In celebration of its 11th year anniversary, the Silly People’s Improv Theater (SPIT) and the PETA Theater Center proudly present the Manila Improv Festival 2013 from June 26-30, 2103.
The theme for this year is “Follow Your Feet”, an improvisational theater concept which also ties in with the art form’s return to PETA - the group which first introduced improvisational theater to the country in the early 1970s. As SPIT takes on a new decade of laughter and innovation, the group decided to take a bolder step in sharing the art of improv to bigger audiences through the festival and its partnership with PETA Theater Center.

SPIT Philippines
Gabe Mercado, artistic director of the festival and founder of SPIT describes the vision of the festival: “SPIT was founded back in June 2002, because I saw the need for a new kind of comedy—one that differed from the usual stand-up comedy routines that we are used to seeing on TV and comedy bars. Improv appealed to me because of its grounding on truth, the magic of spontaneity, and the fun that on-the-spot creation brings about. We hope events like these help build the improv community of the country and the region.”

3 Dudes Improv
Being the country’s premiere improvisational theater group known for their smart and incisive brand of comedy, SPIT has represented the Philippines in numerous international events such as the prestigious Los Angeles Comedy Festival in 2004, and more recently, in the Hong Kong and Beijing Improv Festivals.

Beijing Improv
Last year SPIT celebrated their ten-year anniversary as a group, and staged the 1st Manila International Improv Festival. The festival was an overwhelming success with sold-out performances at Quantum Café in Makati City. Furthermore, the exciting improv workshops held at the College of St. Benilde facilitated by renowned improv veterans Shaun Landry and Tom Farnan from Los Angeles, created a clamor for another festival. And since SPIT wanted to continue propagating improvisational theater in the ASEAN region, the group decided to do it again this year.

People's Liberation Improv (Hong Kong)
The 2nd Manila International Improv Festival promises to create a new, fun, and exciting theater experience for improv enthusiasts and generally anyone who wants to have a good time and learn something new.

Taichung Improv
The participating improv groups:  People's Liberation Improv and 3 Dudes Improv (Hongkong), Beijing Improv (Beijing), Taichung Improv  (Taiwan), Xiamen Improv (Xiamen), Zmack  (Shanghai), Pirates of Tokyo Bay (Tokyo) and Silly People’s Improv Theater (Manila). A Visit to RenaiXance

8:37:00 AM 2 Comments
Last June 5, I was able to attend the opening of RenaiXance which celebrated the 10th year of Renaissance Art Gallery.

I was so amazed with all the different artworks around me! Throughout the years since Rizal's time, Filipinos have always been good with creating beautiful artworks. It's just timely that this exhibit is being held on the month of Philippines's Independence Day.

If you're at the SM Megamall area, remember to drop by and support these great Filipino artists! RenaiXance will be available until June 29 at the 4/F SM Megamall A, Ortigas Center, Pasig. To know more about it, you may read my previous entry here.

Below are some snippets of artworks and people that have caught my attention.

Mabuhay ang Pilipino!

Artist Remy Boquiren with her artwork. I met Tita Remy through my friend Mari. She's really nice and very accommodating!

At the right is National Artist Napoleon Abueva. If you notice the wooden bench on the ground floor of DLSU-Taft's library, those were sculpted by him.
Jim Paredes with his photo. He took that in Bulacan. When one talks to him, you wouldn't even feel that he's a star! He's so friendly, down-to-earth and talks to everyone in the crowd! :)
My fiance with Jim Paredes
National artist Abdulsari Imao
There's also a sculpture of a child in the middle of all the artworks. The child is as green as how a school's black board would look like.

The child symbolizes the hopes of Renaissance Art Gallery to grow bigger in the next years to come! This artwork is also used as a shout out box and doodle board for the kids.

Look at all that chalk encircling the artwork! I can't help but to get one piece of chalk and also write a message myself.
