Beer Pong at Wingman

11:55:00 AM 0 Comments
I've always considered Wingman as one of the best buffalo wings place in the Metro. When I was invited to a game of beer pong here, I just agreed right away even if I had no idea on how to play the game!
Garlic Parmesan Wings, Curly Fries and Black Bean Burrito
Garlic Parmesan Curly Fries for a touch of flavor.
Dip it in their sauce and eat it in one go!
After having some of my regular favorites (above), it was time to play beer pong! Yes, I did not forget I was there for the game even though I was enjoying the delicious fares. Haha! :D

The staff of Wingman started setting up the beer pong table and taught us how to play. I was actually part of the first team who played. During the game, the staff gave tips, explained the rules further and of course, helped with the scoring.

Basically, here's what happened: Beer was poured on 6 plastic cups and lined into a triangle. Each player has two ping pong balls then whoever's it (through a short game of rock-paper-scissors) will throw the ball to the other side of the table and shoot it in the opponent's cup for the opponent to drink.
Like a ping pong game, the ball can only bounce once on the table. More than one bounce on the table is invalid and the next player gets to throw the ball. With one bounce and if it shoots in your opponent's cup, your opponent must drink 2 cups of beer. Without a bounce but if the ball shoots in your opponent's cup, your opponent will only drink 1 cup.

So the goal is to have the ball bounce once on the table and shoot in your opponent's cup for your opponent to drink 2 cups at the same time.
Just take turns in throwing the ball to the other side of the table until you finish your opponent's cup or your cups get finished. In my case, I lost the game. Haha! :D But it was all good.

On this visit, I got the chance to try their newest addition to their menu called "Hell Fire" which is literally buffalo wings on fire! This fiery hot chicken wings spiced up with Carolina Reaper Chili will surely challenge your taste buds.
Hell Fire
This burning dish comes with a serving of vanilla ice cream to cool down the palate in case you're brave enough to try it and need a back up.
A closer look without the fire
Aside from being spiced with Carolina Reaper, as you can see, these chopped "labuyo" (native Filipino chili) will already start the heat when you take a bite into this dish. As I've said above, I was courageous enough to try it! One bite and I had to keep on biting the meat to the bones to avoid making my tongue feel numb. Oh yes, it was extremely spicy! However, what's surprising is that the wings had a sweet and salty note despite having a high level of spicyness. Also, yes, I ate the vanilla ice cream! It was quite difficult to handle the heat so I needed the ice cream to help me out.

After that hot chicken wings, I had the Honey Dijon Wings. I needed a sweet dish aside from ice cream to cool down my taste buds.
Honey Dijon Wings
While watching the other teams play against each other, our group enjoyed more yummy treats.
Onion Rings
Perfectly crisp outside, soft and flavorful inside. <3 td="">
Deep Fried Coke
Yes, you read it right! It's a weird dessert but fun to eat. It's a cup of crunchy coke flavored batter topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup and whipped cream.
Wingman is open daily from 11am - 1am and is located at The Collective, Malugay St., Makati.

Rainy Day Hits at My Ultimate Favorite Japanese Hideout Place

7:00:00 PM 0 Comments
Even before social media got into people's lives and learned about Little Tokyo from photos, articles and all the sharing, I have dined in Little Tokyo ever since because it was so near where my first job is. Despite moving to other jobs, being away from Makati, dining in different good Japanese restaurants in the Metro, this one place still calls me and I will always be going back to - Yamazaki Hoka Hoka Bento Ramen House!

The name might be long but it represents the place is a fast food with bento meals & ramen. Aside from these, the place also has a grocery where you can buy your Japanese food stash like instant noodles, ramen (to cook at home), fresh vegetables, Hokkaido milk, etc.

Since it's already the rainy season, having a bowl of ramen to get together with friends is always a good idea, thus, to Yamazaki Hoka Hoka Bento Ramen House we go.

My friend ordered the Ankake Ramen. It's a seafood ramen with shrimp, crabsticks, squid, black fungus, ground pork, carrots and chives in thick seafood broth. One serving even good for 1, it's actually quite big and can be eaten by 2 persons.
Ankake Ramen (P238)
My usual order is the Han Chan Set at P228 which includes these:

A choice between Yasai Itame (stir fried mixed vegetables) or Gyoza, I chose Gyoza. I like its soft translucent skin which is fried a bit on a side to give a little crisp. The blend of meat with vegetables inside has a good ratio of soft, tender, meaty, tasty and juicy.

The Shoyu Ramen
Shoyu means soy sauce, thus indicating that the broth is made with soy sauce however, it's good and slurp-worthy especially if you have a bit of spring onions while sipping it. The noodles has enough softness and the piece of shoyu, though it's just 1 piece, it's good enough since this is just half a serving but big enough for 1 person.
Look at the generous amount of ramen in this so-called half a serving!

The Chahan
This fried rice with egg, a little bit of meat, green peas and fish cake might look innocently simple but a spoonful brings you to heaven! A little bit more spoonfuls and it'll trick you into finishing the whole plate which will make you crave for more even if you're full because it's just so good. This honestly is the best chahan I've ever had! It's my one true love which I'll fall in love over again and again.
Yamazaki Hoka Hoka Bento Ramen House is located at the Little Tokyo area but it's on the outside, just opposite Makati Cinema Square, near Seryna. It's open daily from 9:30am to 9:30pm. Try out their bento meals too which comes with spaghetti salad style which might be weird to look at but just eat it and you'll see how good it is. :)
Our orders: 2 Han Chan Set and 1 Ankake Ramen. Yummy!!! :P~

Having a Tiring Week? Time to Unwind at "After All Bar & Grill"

3:16:00 AM 0 Comments
In the commercial jungle of Makati filled with offices, traffic and crowded streets, a regular day feels long and tiring especially if you're trying to beat a deadline in the office. Even though it's not a Friday night, there are times that you would just want a drink or two with honest to goodness quality comfort food. Here's where "After All Bar & Grill" at the Ground Floor of Jazz Mall (located in Nicanor Garcia, Makati) comes in.

The restaurant is created by a group of friends who aims to relax its customers after all the hardships and difficulties they've faced to just let loose and unwind. With amazing drinks, no judgement on how stressed you may look like, their servers will greet you with a big smile, may even remember your name and make you forget every stress that leaves you with nothing but enjoyment.

The Drinks
Long Island
Calibre - "After All Bar & Grill's" version of a Cuba Libre
Pompoms - the fruity goodness of buko & melon with a delighting alcoholic twist
Apple Yuki Matsuri: Inspired by Japan's Sapporo Snow Festival, this apple slushie drink is sweet, juicy and smooth.
After Sunset: a delicious citrusy drink that clears the mind and inspires the soul.
Honey Dew Mojito: A calamansi minty mojito blended with honey dew and alcoholic sweetness that leaves the tongue appetized and ready to eat.
Kara Java Daiquiri: coffee based liqueur that's awakening and yet gives you a feeling of zen at the same time. It's like realizing everything is going to be okay.
Every night from 7pm, there are different genres of music played by bands who are good and ready to make you feel refreshed, ready to sleep and face the next day.

The Food
Romanian Devilled Squid: lovely & soft squid that is good with a bowl of warm rice and a cold drink.
Crispy Pata: as the name says, it's crispy pork leg which is a popular Filipino delicacy for celebrations.
Saikoro Steak
Tuna Salpicao: very good with rice too!!! I could eat this all day. 😁
Seafood Teppanyaki
Waikiki Ribs
When I was there, I met two of the owners who told me that there are times they have stage actors or actresses who have day jobs that sings with the bands to unwind which they allow and makes the night even more magical. Well, even if you're not a stage actor or actress, you're actually free to request if you can sing with the band, as long as they can play the song, why not? You might meet a few new friends after all the wonderful jamming!

"After All Bar & Grill" is open from 10am - 11pm. Despite being a great night spot, it's a nice quiet spot during lunch time that's great for meetings. Check out their lunch menu as well that's very affordable and good too.
This Sweet & Sour Fish Lunch Set is less than P300 which comes with soup and a drink! Can you believe it? 😊
For reservations to ensure your seats (it gets pretty full on meal times), call (02)816-3652.

Home Cooked Fast Food? Possible at Chef Bernard.Com!

10:38:00 AM 0 Comments
Gone are the days when sumptuours snacks, lunch and dinners are cooked at home on a day to day basis and dining out is becoming more of a routine. It is because of this reality that two long time friends Randy Ortiz (Yes, he's THE RANDY ORTIZ, THE POPULAR fashion designer!) and Bernard Banares (a former professional model) came up with the decision to put up a restaurant simply called "Chef Bernard.Com" to address this growing need for a place where people can relax, enjoy and eat at anytime of the day that is fast, unique, affordable (their most expensive dish is only at P320!), delicious and home cooked style!
Ready to know what's on the menu and eat?
The menu
Chef Bernard is an Ilonggo who is a graduate at Le Cordon Bleu and a long time resident of Pasadena, California where a variety of good food can be found! During his stay in the US, he has created new dishes and desserts for various fine dining restaurants aside from making home made dishes to fellow Pinoys living in the US.

Randy Ortiz is also an Ilonggo and a very well known fashion designer but do you know that he is a degree holder of Hotel and Restaurant Management from DLSU-CSB? Which makes him a perfect business partner of Chef Bernard for this wonderful restaurant!

Chef Bernard.Com is located at Unit A, Greenbelt Radisson 7, 106 Aguirre St. Legaspi Village, Makati City which is in the middle of offices and condos where busy professionals are always present. The location is just perfect for those who have a busy lifestyle but want a budget friendly, fast and freshly cooked meals that is home cooked. Think of it as a "sosyal carinderia" as per Chef Bernard!
Don't miss this sign when you pass by Aguirre St in Legaspi Village, Makati!

The white and red interiors spell clean and fun.

A spectacle of the place is their see-through kitchen which is part of their showcase. Also, this makes customers who are very particular with cleanliness to calm down because everything is being taken cared of!

That's Chef Patrick again!
As you see, the interiors are very cozy. I love their modern chandelier and also their salt and pepper shakers which fits the interiors perfectly!

Now, get ready to salivate as I start presenting to you the food which we've partake! These dishes are going to be a part of Chef Bernard.Com's menu this Summer!
Tada! It's a feast! (Photo by Studiyo)
OUP: PANCIT MOLO
Pansit Molo is a very common household soup to warm up the hungry stomach before eating. It is composed of well seasoned lean pork wrapped in Chef Bernard.Com's homemade wonton wrapper simmered to perfection in their stock from scratch.
Mich Bugante and Rhea Bue enjoys their Pansit Molo soup!

BEVERAGE: LEMON GRASS ICE TEA
It's a natural blend of lemon grass, mint and simple sugar. A Filipino styled ice tea drink! It tasted like Halls honey lemon drops! Soothing to the throat yet refreshing!
Looks like a Mexican Mojito but it's non-alcoholic and good for the body.
This Lemon Grass Ice Tea is made out of all-natural local ingredients!
APPETIZER: VIETNAMESE SPRING ROLLS
I know that you might be thinking, "So what's Filipino about this Vietnamese Spring Rolls if it's Vietnamese?" Am I right? Yes, it might look Vietnamese but it's actually filled with adobo flakes! Inside that rice paper wrapper is a combination of ingredients that can be also found locally like rice vermicelli, basil, mint and lettuce. There's a peanut hoi sin sauce dip to bring out the flavor of the adobo flakes! It's actually quite light that makes one want to eat more and yet, you won't feel guilty because it's full of veggies!
The bottom right chunk is imported quinoe from South Africa which can be put on top of the rolls.
This is the South African Quinoa that Chef Bernard brings here from the US just to match these rolls!
Do you see the adobo flakes?
MAIN COURSE: RICE
What is Filipino food without rice? You just can't eat Filipino food without them!
MAIN COURSE: BAKED STUFFED CHICKEN WITH CHEESE, VEGETABLES AND SAUSAGES
It's boneless chicken stuffed with meat and vegetables baked to perfection served with its own dripping made into gravy with pickled squash and kamote puree.
Do you see the carrots and peas?
A closer look! Mouth-watering isn't it?
Look at that chicken! (Photo by Studiyo)
MAIN COURSE: SEAFOOD KARE-KARE
For those who are fasting this Lenten Season, this is a perfect way of having your kare-kare! It's a mix of sauteed seafood and vegetables with peanut sauce! Perfectly no meat (beef, pork or chicken that is)! The peanut sauce of this dish has the creaminess of peanut, the flavor of seafood and crab stick strings which is so good with rice!
The kare-kare has shrimps, squids, crab sticks, mussels and vegetables.
The sauce is as thick and flavorful as it looks! (Photo by Studiyo)
MAIN COURSE: PORK BINAGOONGAN
Rendered pork slowly cooked in shrimp paste served with grilled eggplant. According to Chef Bernard, the pork was fried in its own oil so you can see that there's no fat in the pork anymore. It's just strips filled in with flavorful sauce since it's simmered for 3 hours.
DESSERT: CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY MOUSSE
Perfect blend of chocolate and raspberry. A sweetened dessert with whipped cream as a base. The white top of the dessert actually tasted like raspberry cheesecake to me. The chocolate mousse underneath is not too bitter nor sweet.
It's really good!
A closer look at this yummy treat.
The different layers of the Chocolate Raspberry Mousse
After the sumptuous meal, it's actually alright to just hang out at the place bonding with friends and having a food laugh which makes the dining experience a whole lot better and enjoyable.

Overall, Chef Bernard.Com is all about a place that serves a fusion of Asian-Filipino cuisine with a healthy and modern twist, food to go and catering for select clientele. Pinoy traditional recipes are served a little bit different from the usual. So don't miss it when you're in Makati!
