A Mind Blowing Afternoon with the Three Marketing Masters

10:00:00 AM 0 Comments
Three of the best speakers in the Philippines was in one room in one afternoon last Feb. 10, 2010. Mr. Francis Kong, Dr. Ned Roberto and Mr. Josiah Go presented in the 2nd Market-Driving Strategy Forum: The Innovation Imperative at the ballroom of Hotel Intercontinental Makati.

Presentations

I have heard about Mr. Kong before from a lot of people on how he can inspire one to work on his or her idea. His talk was full of examples and case studies on how an idea started and on how the idea developed into reality which became the start of success. Even though there were technical terms and a lot of theories in the talk, he successfully made the talk interesting with jokes here and there which caught everyone's attention.

Mr. Francis Kong saying,

"You can pay me to talk but you can never pay me enough to shut up."

It's my second time to hear Dr. Ned speak. I love how he presented the new innovations that have happened recently like San Marino corned tuna and Dona Maria Jasponica Brown Jasmin Rice. His case studies of these two new innovations which have became a huge hit recently was very helpful in giving me insights on what else I can do to innovate the brands I'm handling. Unfortunately, this is Dr. Ned's last forum with Mansmith and Fielders. He will be retiring and enjoy his life with his family. Well, I would like to congratulate him for a job well done! He's truly one of the best. In his talks, he always make fun of how his English don't have a twang since he's from De La Salle University and not from "the" Ateneo however, I think that he has proven himself as someone truly smart and successful even he's from De La Salle University. I believe no matter what university someone goes to, what is important is not the English twang but what achievements one has accomplished. Dr. Ned, thank you so much for all these knowledge you have imparted us. Good luck with retirement and enjoy because you deserve it!

Dr. Ned Roberto

The last speaker Mr. Josiah Go is one of my idols. He has re-opened my mind again with the ideas floating around my head since I was in high school. Like a kid, I have lots and lots of creative ideas which sometimes keep me up at night. It's my third time to hear him talk about marketing innovation and what to look out for before venturing into a business. He said that ideas are very addicting but one should look at all angles before pushing through which is very true. For those who plan on having their own businesses in the future or for those who have their own business now, I recommend you to attend one of Mr. Go's seminars first to give you more insight on what to watch out for which will help make your business succeed or become better.

Barcino Greenbelt 2 Opens

7:32:00 AM 0 Comments

A regular day becomes festive with all the colorful barrels that one can see outside the new Barcino at Greenbelt 2. Like its other previous branches in The Fort and Greenbelt 5, this new branch also has the same old world wooden design which transports one to a tapa bar in Spain without getting on a plane.

The cozy ambiance inside the place makes it a perfect place for group of friends to chat, drink and kill time. My favorite spot in this branch is the wine room which displays the different wines with a long table and bench where group of friends can be very noisy catching up without worrying on disturbing other people.

Like its other branches, the choices of wine in this branch is as amazing. The wine rack beside the entrance looks like a library of wines waiting to be discovered! The barrels used as table top give mystery of where those came from and maybe one can have a taste of where those wines have gone to.

As the night goes deeper, more guests come in and join the festivities. I notice that it's actually not the opening of Barcino they're celebrating about but the wonderful wines and good food that Barcino offers.

I especially love their sole fish wraps with alfafa sprouts which tastes fantastic with the Cavas Villarnau Brut! The sweet flavor of the fish comes out after one sip. The other food that were served throughout the night are also yummy!

100: I Am A Visionary Launch

100 Magazine Executive Editor Richie Yang

Last January 27, 2010, in the heart of Highstreet, Fort Bonifacio, 100 Magazine launched their new issue "100: I Am A Visionary" featuring the top 100 people who are running for different political positions this year.

The Crowd

If you think it's impossible to put 100 politicians from different political parties and have different beliefs in one room, 100 Magazine has proven an effective way to put them in one magazine! 100's latest issue, 100 Visionaries List, gives us some hope that somehow it's possible for these 100 visionaries to change our country for the better. Their different backgrounds, life stories and projects that they have accomplished can be seen in this issue. It is easy for us to criticize the different politicians and campaigns that have been circulating around the metro but do we really know these people? 100: I Am A Visionary will give us insight to things that we have never heard or seen before.

Taguig City's Mayor Freddie Tinga

CamSur's Governor L-Ray Villafuerte

There are two covers of 100's visionary list. There is Taguig City's Mayor Freddie Tinga and CamSur's Governor L-Ray Villafuerte.

Mayor Tinga

Mayor Tinga was chosen because of how he has transformed a once squatter infested Taguig into the chic place it is now. Although not the whole city of Taguig has been transformed, one still has to applaud him for being able to create a wonderful place such as The Fort. Whenever I have friends from abroad coming here, I always make sure we visit there just to show them how beautiful Philippines has become. Even though I'm not a resident of Taguig, I salute you, Mayor Tinga!

Gov. Villafuerte in one of the pictures shown in the slideshow

CamSur's Governor L-Ray Villafuerte has upgraded the once unknown Camarines Sur into our country's top tourist destination because of water sports! During the slideshow of pictures, I was very surprised to see all those extreme sports that Gov. Villafuerte did. I think it's his passion for these sports that has helped him make his projects and at the same time promote CamSur and of course, The Philippines, as an exciting must-go place for all water sport enthusiast. My hat's off for Governor Villafuerte!

Messages from the Visionaries on the Freedom Wall

There was a freedom wall during the launch which allowed the guest politicians to write about what they feel. From their messages, one can see how hopeful these politicians are. Since they are the ones in power, I wish they will really be working on their hopes and someday we'll see the once third world Philippines into a world class country.

100 Editor-in-Chief Carlo Velasco with the Visionaries gives a toast for a better Philippines.

A Night of Arzuaga

7:12:00 AM 0 Comments

The information that I used to know about wines are: to take white wine with seafood or chicken, to take red wine with pork or beef and to take champagne with desserts.

My evening with Arzuaga amazed me on how the smokey, tarty, sweetness and sourness of different Arzuaga red wines can bring out the flavor of each dish. Organized by Wine Depot Gourmet Depot, the night featured five Arzuaga red wines paired with the five course menu prepared by Red Restaurant of Makati Shangri-La.

Red is a perfect venue for this wine dinner for having a simple set up of white table cloth with black chairs and the seats were spaced wide enough for different guests to have intimate discussions during dinner. Despite the five wine glasses per person in each table setting, the table still had enough space for another glass of water and the dishes which will be following as the night goes on.

The appetizer is a plate which consisted of ceviche of tuna with micro herbs, cocoa dusted seared foe gras with pomegranate and vanilla syrup and pata negra crisps. Paired with Fan D'Oro 2007 and La Planta 2008, the flavor of each dish became stronger. The foe gras which was smoked in perfection maintaining its juicyness had a clean finish after having a sip of Fan D'Oro 2007.

The second dish is star anise braised pork belly, chorizo tamales with thyme and oregano paired with Pago Florentino 2005. The pork belly was soft and chewy. The sauce smells good but is a little bland. Taking Pago with the pork gave it a little salty kick which made the dish tastier.

I love salmon which made me crazy for the third dish. Olive oil poached wild salmon fillet with blackberry reduction, warm sambuca jelly, shellfish veloute paired with Crianza 2006. I have never tasted such good salmon. It is very soft that it melted in my mouth. The Crianza 2006 was a wonderful match as it took the fishy taste and smell of the salmon away as you swallow it.

The fourth dish consists of bone marrow crusted organic beef tenderloin, minted apple puree, truffle mashed potatoes in balsamic jus with Reserva Especial 2004. The beef tenderloin was very tender and the bone marrow crust gave it an extra special herby kick that made it very mouth watering. Reserva Especial 2004 has a very strong scent of grapes and sweet taste that made the taste of the dish stay on the tongue for awhile.

The fifth dish is a very sumptuous warm flourless dark chocolate cake, berry jelly and red port wine sabayon. The cake was still very moist and creamy inside. Paired with Vittoria coffee, I feel so pampered during dessert. I tried some of the pralines which is yummy and also goes well with the coffee. Even though I was already full, I wasn't able to control myself and finished the whole cup of coffee which gave a tempting aroma. Vittoria coffee lived true to its sweet scent. It has a really bold sweet flavor that gave a sweet ending to a truly delightful dinner.
