# 13 # 13: The Musical

Being 13

As one grows up and look back, we see how colorful it was when we were younger. "13 The Musical" by Ateneo Blue Repertory will surely bring one in time when one is not yet old but not too young. It's the age of experimentation, adventure and a lot of firsts that will bring out one's nostalgic side!

"13: The Musical" follows the story of Evan Goldman, a New Yorker on the brink of turning 13 years old. When his parents get divorced, he is forced to move to the middle-of-nowhere place called Appleton, Indiana, where he must make new friends and build a new reputation from scratch. Trouble starts when Evan tries to fix everyone’s problems – the star quarterback needs help courting the prettiest cheerleader, his friend Archie is demanding a date with his crush, and, on top of it all, someone is spreading the nastiest rumors about him. Evan’s loyal friend, the school geek Patrice, helps him get by, but because of the merciless hierarchy of their school, Evan must recognize who his true friends are and discover what it really means to be a man.

I love how the casts photos remind me of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" because of the bright colors and playful execution.

Bernice Reyes as Patrice
David Mercado as Archie
Even though these actors are still studying, do not underestimate them! I've seen plays of Ateneo Blue Repertory before and if you do not know they're students, you'll think they're professional stage actors!
Another thing that I like best is that they're trained by one of the best directors in the country today, Christopher de Venecia. After directing Ateneo Blue Repertory's "Little Shop of Horrors," he returns once again as director of "13: The Musical." By the way, he was nominated as Best Director for "Little Shop of Horrors" on Broadway World Philippines Awards 2011!

Reb Atadero, who was Peter in Ateneo Blue Repertory’s "Bare" last year is in charge of the musical direction.

Mica Fajardo, a current member of Ateneo Blue Repertory and last seen as part of the ensemble in Bare 2012, gives "13: The Musical" lively and bold choreography.
