Meet Alice This August!

4:14:00 AM 0 Comments
It's back to my favorite time of Repertory Philippines' season! Repertory Philippines’ Theatre for Young Audiences (AKA Children's Theatre) which was started by Ms. Joy Virata, had its first production in 1992 featuring "Sleeping Beauty."

Even though I'm all grown up, these shows bring out my young heart and fun childhood memories which is fun to reminisce.

In celebration of its 21st year of producing well-loved musicals for children of all ages, Repertory Philippines’ Theatre for Young Audiences proudly announces its 2013 offering with the staging of "Alice in Wonderland."
"Alice in Wonderland" is set to open on August 17, 2013 and will run until December 15, 2013 at Onstage, 2/F, Greenbelt 1, Paseo de Roxas cor. Legazpi St., Makati City.

The cast is composed of the following: Dani Gana and Chaye Mogg (Alice), Nacho Tambunting, Jim Ferrer and Reb Atadero (Rabbit), Liesl Batucan (Duchess), Bituin Escalante and Natalie Everett (Queen of Hearts), Becca Coates and Janine Tolentino (Storyteller / Flora), Rachel Coates and Marie Delgado (Storyteller / Dora), Oliver Usison and Kendrick Ibasco (Walrus / King of Hearts), Nic Campos and Joel Trinidad (French Mouse / Carpenter / Mad Hatter), Onyl Torres and James Stacey (Caterpillar / March Hare), Antonio Lane and Jay Pangilinan (Mock Turtle), Reymund Domingo and Khevin Almario (Duck / Kettle), Edward Briones (Lory / Baby), Dingdong Rosales (Lory / Baby / Tweedledum), Josh Ramirez and Chino Veguillas (Dodo / Tweedledee / Doormouse), Shalee Vicencio and Gold Soon (Moon / Court Member), Ina Salonga (Tears / Court Member), Kyla Rivera (Tears / Oyster / Door), Clark Francis dela Riva and Bobby Superales (Door / Oyster) and Bym Buhain (Door / Tweedledum).
Joel Trinidad as Mad Hatter

For over 150 years, "Alice in Wonderland" has captivated children with its timeless and whimsical story written by Lewis Caroll. The classic tale is now re-told in an enchanting adaptation with book and lyrics by Jim Eiler. Music is also by Jim Eiler and Jeanne Bargy.

With toe-tapping lively music and highly-spirited dance numbers, "Alice in Wonderland" follows Alice through the looking glass and down the rabbit hole in a whirlwind of twists and turns through an enchanting Wonderland. In this whimsical fantastic journey, Alice meets all of Wonderland's famous and popular residents brought to life with full flair and color including: the King & Queen of Hearts, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Gryphon, Mock Turtle, Dormouse, Mad Hatter and March Hare, the Dutchess, Cheshire Cat and of course, the White Rabbit, and a whole world of characters for the audience to enjoy.
Bituin Escalante as Queen of Hearts

Alice’s strange adventures unexpectedly changes her size, attends a tea party with the March Hare and the Mad Hatter, and even testifies at the trial of a knave who has stolen some tarts from the Queen of Hearts!

Co-presented by the City of Makati, "Alice in Wonderland" is a perfect treat for the whole family.

The artistic and creative team of "Alice in Wonderland" is led by Joy Virata (Director), Liesl Batucan (Assistant Director), Baby Barredo (Musical Director), Jamie Wilson (Technical Director), Gino Gonzales (Set Designer), Raven Ong (Costume Designer), John Batalla (Lights Designer), Lisa, Tintin and Cecille Martinez (Choreographers), Onyl Torres (Vocal Coach) and Jay Pangilinan (Musical Arranger).
Reb Atadero as the Rabbit

I am excited with what Raven Ong will be creating for the costumes. He really makes wonderful costumes that tickles one's imagination. I can still remember the past costumes which he did!

The production staff is composed of Gidget Tolentino (Production Manager), Ayam Barredo (Company Manager), Jojo Amboy (Stage Manager), Pol Roxas (Sound Technician), Pablito Salvador (Lighting Technician) and Adul Lasin (Set Execution and Scenic Artist).

The marketing, sales and publicity is led by David Bianco (Marketing, Sales), Toots Tolentino and Oliver Usision (PR & Publicity), Marie Talay and Rose Silva (Marketing & Sales) and Jojo Mamangun (Photography) and John Alaras (Art Direction).

The Great Northern Sale Day 1

8:29:00 AM 4 Comments
SM City North Edsa's biggest sale of the year "The Great Northern Sale" has just started yesterday! I can't help myself but go and visit to take a look what it has to offer on its first day of sale.

I went to the mall at 3pm and was so surprised that there were so many people inside even though it was work hour! It seems that some people took the day off just to be able to find good bargains or buy things from their wishlist.

Upon entering the mall, the most wonderful thing greeted me:
Party dresses from SM Ladies Fashion were at 50% off! How cool is that?
Walking around the mall, I've noticed that not only fashionable clothes are on sale! There are restaurants who have their own way of having a sale as well which makes visiting SM City North Edsa even better!
Arafu Cafe whose specialty is Japanese burger is having a "Teriyaki Festival" and offering their teriyaki burger at PhP198 for the small order and PhP298 (from PhP320) for the big order.
The owner of Arafu Cafe, Minako, is Japanese so you're sure that what you get here is authentic Japanese cuisine. She's even there in the store to supervise with cooking and managing the guests!

After eating, it was time to shop again! Of course! What else do you do in a sale, right?

I saw these nice shirts for men and women in Link that were only as low as PhP150!
Ice Watch that has watches in candy colors have a 50% discount offer on all their watches!
Do you love steak? I saw this restaurant called Brickfire which is famous for their oven baked steaks and chops which is a lot healthier than the grilled ones. The price of their steak starts from PhP149 (yes, it's that affordable!) is also having a special offer during the Great Northern Sale!
Buy 1 Angus steak and get 25% off on some of their famous dishes like Mac n' Cheese, Liempo, Seafood Chowder, Cheesy Broccoli and Beef Asado.
Look at their Cowgirl Annie Steak (T-bone steak) at PhP260 (350 grams which is their large size). It's one of their specialties and best-selling item in the menu.
After having this sumptuous steak, with a full tummy, it's time to shop more!
P100 for any of these items! Cool, isn't it?
Penguin also has some pretty cool sale items for men!
Look at these shoes! Great for work or those formal events, right?
Buffalo's Wings N' Things also offered some menu packages for groups who would like to have some snacks after being tired from all the walking.
Twisted Candy which offers a good show while they're preparing the candies, have an exciting offer for the sweet tooth as well!
Look at that! "3 Day Sale" spelled out in a candy! Cool, huh?
The Twisted Candy booth
Look at these cute pieces!
It's a doll! Too pretty to eat!
To cap off a great shopping experience, had my dinner at Vikings!

Rico Blanco takes Galactik Fiestamatik to First Major Solo Concert

11:30:00 PM 0 Comments
Fiesto Bandido—that musical wizard more popularly known as singer/songwriter/showman Rico Blanco—has pulled it off once again.

On Philippine Independence Day, June 12, 2013, Rico made history as he held his first solo concert dubbed “Rico Blanco LIVE!” at the Music Museum. The event was sold out by the week it was held as his fans, friends, and supporters trooped to the venue to witness what was promised to be a highly visual out-of-this-world journey through Rico Blanco's musical career. This wasn't just your standard concert; it was a show in every sense of the word.

Ever since the artist introduced the feather-and-chrome-clad persona of “Fiesto Bandido” for his newest album “Galactik Fiestamatik,” Rico Blanco's fans all over the country have been treated to a dose of the spectacle that has become the trademark for the musical chameleon's current persona. What with all the ati-atihan-inspired attire, the beats, the tribal dancing reminiscent of town fiestas (assuming fiestas are held in space), and the colorful light show that accompanies the music beat by beat.

I'm doing away with my old habits with a rock band,” he declares. Which is exactly what he did, removing any semblance of the traditional rock setup; stripping his music down to primal beats, electronic textures, and his trademark keys. At the same time, Rico brings back the concept of a “rock show,” a visual experience which Filipino music fans haven't had in quite sometime. It is pure audacity not present in a lot of artists, a brave move that was so crazy that it actually worked.

Lights out. Fiesto glided onstage to the haunting opening keys of “Amats,” the first single from his latest album. By the time the thunderous beats started, the concert turned into a space age light-and-sound show. The musical bandit didn't stop there as he dove right into his next single, “Burado.”

He may be a forward-thinking artist, but not one to disavow his roots. Blanco proceeded to do an electro medley of his old band Rivermaya's hits: “Umaaraw, Umuulan,” “Kisapmata,” “Elesi,” and “Kung Ayaw Mo, Huwag Mo.” The audience caught on to their old favorites, and sang and clapped along as the Fiestamatik Ringleader egged them on.

After performing his newest single, the wistful “Lipat Bahay,” singer-songwriter Kitchie Nadal joined Blanco onstage for a different take on the Rivermaya ditty, “214.” The man of the night then went on to another look back, as he performed “Balisong” and “You'll Be Safe Here” before wrapping up the number with a tender track off “Fiestamatik,” “Hours and Days.”

Blanco wore the Filipino flag on his sleeve as he performed the Heber Bartolome classic, “Tayo'y Mga Pinoy.” The song is also the theme song of SMART Bro's “Tayo'y Mga Pinoy” campaign which featured the artist collaborating with other musical greats Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, and Barbie Almalbis.

He then went a little forward in time again, back to his Rivermaya days as he performed “Panahon Na Naman” with a pre-recorded Chito Miranda, a riff off their viral video on Blanco's Youtube channel, RicoBlancoTV. He also went on to do another medley from his old band, with an apt focus on positivity (“Posible,” “Awit ng Kabataan,” “Hinahanap-Hanap Kita,” and “Liwanag sa Dilim”), after going off with the declarative “Antukin,” off Blanco's first solo album.

And because Fiesto Bandido is the Intergalactic pied piper, he kicked it up a notch further with the hypnotic “Sayaw,” featuring Ira Cruz on guitars, breaking his own “no guitar” rule, further proving that nothing is sacred to him as far as musical exploration is concerned...not even his own rules. People took their cue from the song as the audience left their seats, throwing their hands in the air clearly wanting more.

It was all dance mayhem from then on, as Blanco went the 80s route with his song “What It Is,” before ending the night with the powerful “Yugto,” his breakout single as a solo artist. But people can never ever have enough of an experience such as this show, so he returned with the intimate “Your Universe,” before punctuating the night with what could possibly be his personal artistic statement through his song “Ngayon.”

Celebrities spotted in the audience included veteran actor Christopher de Leon, Bela Padilla, Melissa Ricks, members of Parokya ni Edgar, Never the Strangers and General Luna, musician/producer Francis Reyes, and singer Paolo Valenciano.

And because the concert was sold out, Rico Blanco hinted at a possible repeat: “We're probably going do another show for those who didn't make it!"

The 'Galactik' adventures of Fiesto Bandido have only just begun.
